San Miguel's Answer to Eclectic Funk.

Used junk in Mexico is non-existent. No item is cast aside, thrown away or traded out. It's used until it has no

more life. I miss strolling through thrift stores in the States. My entire domicile was decorated from past lives. It was my mission to collect glassware, mixed plates and silverware all from garage sales and thrift stores. Eclectic, stylish, interesting finds made my home unique. Now my home in San Miguel is coming alive with help of La Pulga. In the impregnated aisles I can't tell where one vendor ends and another begins. Sailing through a sea of fleas my hands are ready to grab anything that's eclectic. Nudging my way around the locals with my shades on, looking down hoping not to get spotted by friends who want to greet me. I adore my friends but now I'm on a quest. It’s been 8 years that I’ve been away from the States and this is my one chance a month to blow through a bazaar. A lamp that once adorned a small boutique hotel from the 1980's and a mirror from the older retired lady whose son ma

de it while here on vacation 15 years ago. I'm picking up some ludicrous art for just a few bucks. I've found fully framed matted original art for 50 pesos and books for just 5 pesos. Original Japanese art that someone dumps because it reminds them of their ex-spouse has found a new home. I have a vision of how to put this together to express my personality. La Pulga is my palette and my home is my canvas.

After I feel satisfied with my fill of treasures it's time to satisfy another craving. A hand-crafted beer from my friend Cameron quenches my thrist and Klaudia's Curry Veggie Burritos satiates my appetite. Music from Audio Chef fills the room as he mixs up some shopping tunes from his laptop. Now I am more relaxed and getting my eyes focused on things above a meter in the air I see all my friends! Immediately I greet them and am eager to see what funky items they picked off the sea of fleas.
